The Academy of Fine Arts Vienna possesses a visual heritage in its collection that most other Academies have long since lost. The Graphic Collection mirrors over 300 years of teaching activity with its holdings of approximately 40,000 drawings, 100,000 prints and around 20,000 historic photographs. The history of the collection is not only inextricably linked to the development of the Academy as an institution but also to art politics in the former Habsburg Monarchy and its successor states.
