Holding

The library of the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts is one of  the largest specialized arts and architecture libraries in Austria. The collection is comprised of about 142,000 volumes - among them many invaluable holdings such as Hartmann Schedel's Word Chronicle of 1493 - and 128 periodicals, covering all areas of art.

Historical holdings (books published before 1900) comprise about 10,000 titles, including five incunabula: Hartmann Schedel's World Chronicle (Koberger 1493), Heiligenleben (Life of the Saints, Koberger 1488), Der Schatzbehalter oder Schreine der wahren Reichtümer des Heils und ewiger Seligkeit (Treasure Container or Shrines of True Riches of Salvation and Everlasting Blessedness, Koberger 1491), Directorium Humanae Vitae by Johannes de Capua (Pryß 1486), Leben der heiligen Altväter (Life of the Holy Ancient Fathers, Berger 1488).

60 titles date from the 16th century, 1010 from the 17th century, 110 from the 18th century, and 8812 from the 19th century.

The online catalogue of the University Library of the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts contains about 75,000 titles. It records titles published 1970 or later; titles published before 1970 are, for the most part, recorded in card catalogs only.
