Dr. Karin Riegler, born in Graz (Styria, Austria) in1967, master studies of History / English and American Studies, doctoral studies in History at the University of Vienna, Graduation MA (Mag. phil.) in 1994, Graduation PhD (Dr. phil.) in 2004. Exchange student in the US (Georgetown University in Washington, D.C) in 1991, Visiting Researcher atIndiana University at Bloomington 1995/96.

Vertragsassistentin ( assistant professor) at the Department of History of the University of Vienna in 1997/98, then scientific co-editor for L'Homme (journal for feminist historical science), lecturer at the University of Vienna, worked for the Austrian Fulbright Commission. As of 2002 program officer , as of 2004 Deputy Secretary-General of the Austrian Rectors' Conference. 2005-2007 senior program manager for the European University Association in Brussels. As of 2008 head of quality management, since October 2011 Vice-Rector for Teaching I Promotion of Early Stage Artists/Researchers at the Academy of Fine Arts, Vienna.

General interests:

Teaching and learning, internal university governance and quality management, Bologna Process/European Higher Education Area, internationalization;scholarly interests: American legal and constitutional history, civil rights and women's rights.

Field of duty of the Vice-Rector for Teaching I Promotion of Early Stage Artists/Researchers:

1. Monocratic body for the first-instance enforcement of study-related provisions:

  • Administration of study and examination issues
  • Student admission and collection of tuition fees
  • Examination panels / boards
  • Scholarships and student grants, appointment of granting committees, organization of the allocation process

2. Budgeting and administration of the teaching funds on the basis of the curricula / study plans and of financial coverage

3. Organization of courses taught at the Academy of Fine Arts, Vienna:

  • Assignment of courses of all categories offered to scientific and artistic staff
  • Implementation of the plan for the advancement of female teachers and lecturers
  • Official responses toleave-of-absence requests submitted by scientific and artistic staff (after the respective Department's approval) with a view to sustaining regular teaching and examination processes

4. Evaluation and quality assurance for the field of activity:

  • Drafting and submitting an evaluation guideline to the Senate
  • Carrying out evaluations based on such a guideline
  • Including evaluation in teaching

5. Promotion of Early Stage Artists/Researchers:

  • Promotion of lecturers' and students' international mobility
  • Promotion of post-graduate education for MA and PhD candidates (the latterin consultation with the Vice-Rector for Art I Research)

6. Preparation of the official response of the Rector's Office to the curricula
