Natural Sciences and Technology in Art

Austria joins the European Research Infrastructure for Heritage Science; INTK is significantly involved.

Austria has joined the European research infrastructure E-RIHS ERIC ("European Research Infrastructure for Heritage Science"), the Federal Ministry of Science, Research and Economy (BMFWF) announced. The Institute of Natural Sciences and Technology in the Arts (INTK) played a key role in the entire development, preparatory work, and application process. It is now also represented on the steering board.

Following the footsteps of Theophil Hansen: The HGM as a guest at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna

How did today's Museum of Military History come about? Staff members of the Museum of Military History, together with colleagues from the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, explored this question. The occasion for their research was the examination of historical architectural drawings and designs by the renowned architect Theophil Hansen (1813–1891), who designed the former Arms Museum – the present-day Museum of Military History.

Cathrin-Pichler-Award Winner 2026: Sunggu Hong

The Cathrin Pichler Prize, endowed with €2,500 and sponsored by the City of Vienna, will be awarded to the artist Sunggu Hong in 2026. The prize recognizes artistic positions that contribute to academic discourse and open up new forms of knowledge production through specific methods and practices. The award ceremony will take place on July 3rd during the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna's graduation ceremony. Congratulations!

The recipient of the Erste Bank Art Award 2026 is Ana de Almeida!

We are delighted to announce that the Erste Bank Art Award 2026 has been awarded to Ana de Almeida in recognition of her outstanding artistic practice. The Erste Bank Art Award is a long-standing partnership project of DAS WEISSE HAUS and Erste Bank Sponsoring Programme. For its eleventh edition in 2026, the award is presented in collaboration with the Austrian Cultural Forum Budapest.
