Dear colleagues, dear alumnae and alumni,

we are happy to present Newsletter Art | Research No. 17 to you, including information about current calls and deadlines. We particularly draw your attention to the recently started call within the Sparkling Science programme asking for projects in collaboration with schools, as well as to the career development programmes for female researchers called Hertha Firnberg and Elise Richter grants run by FWF. And, mind the deadline for applications to the Research Grants 2013|14 for doctoral / PhD candidates at the Academy - it's 25 November 2013.

Last but not least, let us inform you that the next PEEK call is likely to start at the beginning of 2014, the submission deadline is expected to be scheduled in April. Details will follow as soon as these are fixed by FWF. Of course you may start thinking about your next PEEK-project right now.

CALL: RESEARCH GRANTS 2013|14 FOR DOCTORAL / PHD CANDIDATES OF THE ACADEMY

This call invites doctoral students of all doctoral programmes and the PhD-in-Practice programme of the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna who will finish their doctoral studies within the academic year 2013/14 (i.e. until September 2014) to apply for a research grant. The grants are given in the form of one-time payments aiming to support the finalisation of the dissertation / PhD project.

CALL: FWF - CAREER DEVELOPMENT FOR FEMALE RESEARCHERS

The FWF is offering extremely well qualified female scientists of all disciplines who are working towards a career in universities the chance of a two-stage funding for a total of six years. The career development programme for female scientists is divided into the Hertha-Firnberg Programme for post-docs, which aims to support women at the start of their scientific careers, and the Elise Richter Programme for senior post-docs, which aims at providing scientists with the necessary qualifications (i.e. habilitation) to apply for professorial positions within Austria or abroad.

CALL: SPARKLING SCIENCE I PROJECT COOPERATIONS WITH SCHOOLS

The funding programme "Sparkling Science" aims at connecting high quality research directly with the promotion of junior researchers and to increase young people's interest in research by supporting projects between research institutions and schools. Schoolchildren shall work side by side with researchers and make contributions that are relevant for the achievement of the research goals.

Project proposals can be submitted in all fields of research. The maximum duration of the project is two years, the maximum funding is 170,000 Euro.

CALL: URBAN STRATEGIES | POSTGRADUATE PROGRAM

The Urban Strategies Postgraduate Program addresses the city as the central field of action for today's production of architecture. This award has been established to encourage young architects and related professionals to push the envelope of their discipline, by widening their repertoire and competence towards the urban realm.

CALL: BRUSSELS IN SHORTS | INTERNATIONAL GRAPHIC SHORT STORY COMPETITION

Passa Porta for the second time issued the international graphic short story competition "Brussels in Shorts". Ten strip cartoon authors and scenarists from Belgium and abroad are being given the chance to create a graphic story on contemporary Brussels, with financial support and accommodation in the centre of the city.

CALL: WIENER WUNDERKAMMER 2014

The exhibition "Wiener Wunderkammer 2014" (TU Vienna, spring 2014) aims to link science and art. Scientists, researchers and artists from all disciplines and genres are invited to submit proposals for their contribution.

CALL: BORDER CROSSING | BERWICK VISUAL ARTS RESIDENCY 2014

Berwick Visual Arts currently invites to apply for its annual residency opportunity in partnership with Berwick Film & Media Arts Festival. The residency is an opportunity for an artist working with moving image to create a new piece of work in response to the 2014 festival theme of 'Border Crossing' and have the resulting work premiered at the festival. The 6 month residency period shall start between February and April 2014, funding is up to 8,000 GBP.

CALL: CDA-PROJECT GRANT 2013 I ARTISTIC RESEARCH AND PRODUCTION

Cda-Projects Grant has been initiated in 2011 to provide a support structure for research-based artistic practices. Applicants can submit an artistic research project that is currently in the production stage or one that is scheduled to be completed during the six‐month period following the date of selection. A grant of 10,000 Euro is offered to support the production of an artistic research project as well as a project publication.

CALL: STUTTGART FESTIVAL OF ANIMATED FILM

The Stuttgart Festival of Animated Film (ITFS) offers a platform for the art of animation. The various competitions aim at the promotion of up and coming talent with cash prizes summing up to a total of 70,000 Euros. Applicants are kindly invited to submit animated films produced after 1 October, 2012 to one of the Festival's competition categories: International Competition (Short film), AniMovie (Feature-length film), Young Animation (Student competition), Tricks for Kids - shorts and series, and Cartoons for Teens.

CALL: PACT ZOLLVEREIN RESIDENCIES 2014

PACT Zollverein (Essen, DE) has been supporting residencies for the development of artistic projects and productions since 2002. The Residency Programme is open to professional artists from home and abroad who work in the areas of dance, performance, media arts or sound art.

CALL: NORD-ART 2014

Kunstwerk Carlshütte is a non-profit cultural initiative and organises the NordArt, an annual international exhibition of visual arts from June to the beginning of October. Currently the application procedure for participation in the NordArt is open, whereas artists will be selected by a jury. Additionally, the NordArt Prize (10,000 Euro) will be awarded, as well as three public choice awards (each 1,000 Euro).

CALL: VAGINA 2.0 - OPENING EXHIBITION

VAGINAMUSEUM.at is Austria's first virtual museum for the female gender. It serves both as a cultural and scientific educational platform for people of all ages, genders and different social and ethnic origins. For the virtual opening exhibition VAGINA 2.0, artists and interested parties are invited to provide [net]adequate inputs from different artistic fields. Each of the eight chosen projects will get 450 Euros for the implementation.

CALL: SoART MILLSTÄTTERSEE ARTIST IN RESIDENCE PROGRAMME

The SoART Millstättersee Artist in Residence (AIR) Programme aims at establishing a fruitful exchange and dialogue among artists. Applicants may be Austrian and international artists from the disciplines of painting, photography, sculpture/installation and music. Emerging artists, who have not yet become established in the art market are particularly encouraged to apply. Each season between 9 and 12 residents will be invited for a period of 4 to 6 weeks.

CALL: INTERNATIONAL DESIGN FOR ALL FOUNDATION AWARDS

These awards recognise achievements in the field of design. There are no restrictions - all are welcome - great and small, governments, businesses, non-profit organisations and professionals. Candidates may submit project proposals, initiatives, methodologies and studies carried out by Living Labs or other organisations or products and services which are already in use. The award ceremony will take place as part of Urbaccess - the European accessibility and universal design exhibition in Paris - on 12 February 2014.
