We particularly draw your attention to the call for Research Grants 2013|14 for doctoral / PhD candidates at the Academy (deadline for application is 25 November 2013).

CONGRATULATIONS: STAATSSTIPENDIUM FOR FINE ARTS AWARDED TO ANA HOFFNER

Congratulations to Ana Hoffner (IKL) who received the Staatsstipendium for Fine Arts 2014 awarded by the Federal Ministry for Education, Arts and Culture (bmukk). Her performative artistic and scientific practice questions both production and presentation, research methods as well as the communication of research results.

CONGRATULATIONS: MARIETTA BLAU GRANT AWARDED TO EVA EGERMANN

We congratulate Eva Egermann (IKL) for being awarded a Marietta Blau Grant. She will use the grant to further her arts-based research project "Touching Crip History" during a visiting research stay at UC Berkeley. Through experimental artistic means, her project seeks to uncover, 'touch' and actualize the affinities and re-significations inherent in alternative histories of 'Dis/ability' and 'Crip' countercurrents.

CALL: RESEARCH GRANTS 2013|14 FOR DOCTORAL / PHD CANDIDATES OF THE ACADEMY

This call invites doctoral students of all doctoral programmes and the PhD-in-Practice programme of the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna who will finish their doctoral studies within the academic year 2013/14 (i.e. until September 2014) to apply for a research grant. The grants are given in the form of one-time payments aiming to support the finalisation of the dissertation / PhD project.

CALL: PHD SCHOLARSHIPS A.R.T.E.S GRADUATE SCHOOL | UNIVERSITY OF COLOGNE

The a.r.t.e.s. Graduate School at the University of Cologne is based on a concept of the humanities that goes beyond the dichotomy between the humanities, the cultural sciences and the natural sciences. A special emphasis lies on hermeneutical and historical-contextual models. Research topics comprise the genesis and invention of knowledge as well as processes of reception and transculturation and their anthropological and ethical conditions. The current call offers 20 PhD scholarships and 10 collegiate places over a period of three years (starting 1 April 2014).

CALL: CONNECTING CITIES | PARTICIPATORY CITY 2014

In the context of the network "Connecting Cities" the Ars Electronica Futurelab connects media facades and large-sized screens all over the world. Under the title "Participatory City 2014" the network invites artists to submit projects, which deal with the question of Urbans Screens and LED-Facades that enable citizens to experience new ways of interaction with the urban environment and to understand, respond to, evaluate and question the transformations that the city is undergoing.

CALL: ILLUSTRATORS 56

Illustrators are welcome to participate in this competition to showcase their work/s. Eligible are all works, which are created or initially published between October 2012 and November 2013.All commissioned work should be entered in one of the following six categories: Editorial, Book, Advertising, Institutional, Uncommissioned, Moving Image. All accepted entries will be reproduced in full color in the Illustrators 56 Annual and included in the exhibit at the Society of Illustrators, on display January 7 - March 1, 2014. A selection of 40 works will tour US colleges through June 2015, the 33rd eduational traveling exhibition.

CALL: FULBRIGHT STIPENDS AND VISITING PROFESSORSHIPS AT UNIVERSITIES IN USA

The Austrian-American Educational Commission has currently issued three calls for Austrian academics, namely Fulbright stipends for teaching / research ("Promotion of mutual understanding between the peoples of Austria and the United States of America"), Fulbright-Botstiber Visiting Professorship for Austrian-American Studies as well as the position of a Fulbright Visiting Professor at the Department of Art and the Center for Austrian Studies, University of Minnesota.

CALL: 8. ARTE LAGUNA

Arte Laguna Prize is an international competition aimed at promoting and enhancing Contemporary Art (Areas: painting, photographic art, sculpture & installation, video art and animation, performance, virtual art). The exhibition of finalist artists will be held at Venice Arsenale. Participation is free for all artists, there is free choice of topic and no age limit.

CALL: DOC-TEAM | DOCTORAL FELLOWSHIPS FOR INTERDISCIPLINARY TEAMS IN SSH

Doc-team is a funding programme run by the Austrian Academy of Sciences (ÖAW). Its purpose is to enable young, excellent doctoral candidates from the humanities, cultural studies and social sciences (SSH) to carry out their dissertation project by cooperating on a research project across disciplinary boundaries in teams of 3-4 members.

Eligibility Requirements are maximum age of 30 years (exceptions possible) or max. 4 years after completion of the Diploma or Master degree. The granted amount of funding is 35,000 Euro per person (annually before tax), in addition, max. 4,000 Euro for travel expenses; maximum funding duration: 36 months.

CALL: GETTY SCHOLAR GRANTS | OBJECT - VALUE - CANON

The call invites established scholars, or writers who have attained distinction in their fields to apply for a residency at the Getty Research Institute, where they pursue their own projects free from academic obligations, make use of Getty collections, join their colleagues and participate in the intellectual life of the Getty. The chosen theme for 2014-2015 is "Object - Value - Canon". Applications are welcome from researchers of all nationalities who are working in the arts, humanities, or social sciences.

CALL: JOINT PROJECTS AUSTRIA - FRANCE 2014

The Austrian Science Fund (FWF) has again a bi-lateral cooperation agreement with the Agence Nationale de la Recherche (ANR). The call for Austrian-French basic research projects is now open. Proposals have to be submitted to FWF and will be processed and reviewed according to the Lead Agency agreement.

CALL: LIST-PRIZE 2014

The List-Prize 2014 invites to submit projects dealing with questions around urban traffic and parking. The projects shall aim to raise public awareness about these issues and to discuss adequate solutions. The prize money is 5,000 Euro; the selection is done by an expert jury.

CALL: VELUX AWARD 2014

The International VELUX Award is an international platform, to encourage student's works in architecture with focus on the topic "Light of Tomorrow". Projects with special focus on the relevance of daylight in architecutre are supported.

CALL FOR PAPERS: ARTMARGINS | SPECIAL ISSUE "THE CRITICAL ARCHIVE"

The journal ARTMargins publishes scholarly articles and essays about contemporary art, politics, media, architecture, and critical theory. It studies art practices and visual culture in the emerging global margins. The journal seeks a forum for scholars, theoreticians, and critics from a variety of disciplines who are interested in postmodernism and post-colonialism, and their critiques; art and politics in transitional countries and regions; post-socialism and neo-liberalism; and the problem of global art and global art history and its methodologies, among other things.

ARTMargins currently invites authors to submit full-length articles (maximum 8000 words) for possible publication in a special issue on "The Critical Archive" to be published in June 2014. The issue aims at investigating the postwar archive as a material concept in the fields of artistic production, art historiography, curatorial practice, and criticism. All submissions are peer-reviewed.

CALL FOR PAPERS: JAR | JOURNAL FOR ARTISTIC RESEARCH

The "Journal for Artistic Research" (JAR) is a peer-reviewed journal, publishing original research from artists of all disciplines. With the aim of displaying and documenting practice in a manner that respects artistic modes of presentation, the journal uses the Research Catalogue, a free-to-use online tool that allows the weaving together of text, image, audio and video material. JAR now invites for submission to issue no.5.

CALL FOR PAPERS: MOTHERING FROM THE MARGINS - NEW PHILOSOPHICAL DIRECTIONS

The last two decades have witnessed growing philosophical scholarship on pregnancy, birth, and mothering - areas in which the discipline of philosophy has hitherto remained largely silent. The editors of the book thus invite essays (8000 words) on any aspect of maternal experience or practice "from the margins," that not only take maternal subjectivity and maternal experience seriously, but are committed to an 'intersectional approach' (that is, ones that approach the issue with sensitivity to multiple axes of oppression and privilege).
