we are happy to present Art | Research News No. 18, informing you about current calls and deadlines. And we are very glad about the long list of grant holders and awardees - congratulations and all the best.

In particular we would like to draw your attention to the current call for project proposals within FWF's programme for arts-based research projects (PEEK). Note, that this year's deadline for submission is on 28 April 2014. We will support you during the application phase. If you do have a project idea or related questions, kindly contact m.glanz@akbild.ac.at.

CONGRATULATIONS: PEEK-FUNDING FOR PROJECT "DIZZINESS - A RESOURCE"

The arts-based research project "Dizziness - a resource" by the artists Ruth Anderwald and Leonhard Grond has recently been selected for funding within the highly competitive PEEK-Programme of the Austrian Science Fund (FWF). The project team will study dizziness, comprising its complementary areas of experience and reflection on dizziness. Based on artistic, art-historical, philosophical and natural scientific sources, they will address questions with respect to contemporary art and illumine its impact on contemporary artistic practice, namely artists' takes on moving image. Congratulations to the team! We are looking forward to your results!

CONGRATULATIONS: INTERNATIONAL PROJECT COOPERATION INTK - CROATIA

Our congratulations to Dubravka Jembrih-Simbürger (INTK) for her international cooperation with Rudjer Boskovic Insitute, Zagreb. Their joint research project "Study of modern paint materials and their stability using MeV SIMS and other analytical techniques" will be funded by the Unity Trough Knowledge Fund of the Croatian Ministry for Science.

CONGRATULATIONS: ÖAW DOC-STIPEND FOR YASMINE EID-SABBAGH

We congratulate Yasmine Eid-Sabbagh for being awarded the ÖAW DOC-Stipend for furthering her PhD in practice project "Conflict in Dialogue. Renegotiating memory and subjectivities in the Palestinian refugee camp Burj al-Shamali by reviving and extending photography". Her arts-based research focuses on different modalities and the limits of visual representation in a society in which memory is mainly based on oral transmission and where photographs are scarce and private.

CONGRATULATIONS: MARIETTA BLAU GRANT AWARDED TO SABINE PRIGLINGER

We congratulate Sabine Priglinger for being awarded a Marietta Blau Grant for furthering her dissertation project "The Aspect of Time in Performance Art" (supervisor: Felicitas Thun-Hohenstein). She will use the grant for a visiting research stay at University of Roehampton, London where she will particularly focus her research on the performance artist Tehching Hsieh.

CONGRATULATIONS: PHD GRANTS FOR SANDRA MONTERROSO

Sandra Monterroso's PhD in practice research project "Black River. Decolonial Aesthetics." will be financially supported by two private foundations, namely the RD Foundation Vienna and the Guatefuturo Foundation from Guatemala. The research will include studies of decolonizing methodologies, class and power, for indigenous people in the word, and the link this issue has with European colonialism. Congratulations and all the best for the project.

CONGRATULATIONS: PHD SCHOLARSHIP FOR FERNANDA NOGUEIRA

We also congratulate Fernanda Nogueira. Her PhD in practice project "For the striptease of art, activism gender and other poetic-political networks" will be supported by the Brasilian Ministry offering a scholarship for doctorates abroad. The project seeks to imagine a (im)possible genealogy for the artistic actions and projects which 'cannibalize' today the popular folk repertoire, multiple cosmologies, radical and emancipatory pedagogies, trans-feminist struggles, post-Marxist critique, queer theories and movements in Brazil and Latin America.

CONGRATULATIONS: KARDINAL-KÖNIG-ART AWARD 2013 FOR KATHI HOFER

The Kardinal-König-Art Award 2013 has been awarded to Kathi Hofer (Alumna 2010, Art and Photography) for her mixed media installation "craftivism, 2012". Our congratulations.

CONGRATULATIONS: FLAKA HALITI WINS HENKEL ART.AWARD 2013

Our congratulations to Flaka Haliti (PhD in practice candidate) who received the Henkel Art.Award 2013. Haliti's art looks at the social and art-world structures within which she produces and presents her own work. Her exhibition for the Henkel Art.Award will open at mumok on 5 June 2014.

CONGRATULATIONS: AUSTRIAN ART AWARD 2013 FOR CAROLA DERTNIG

Congratulations to Carola Dertnig (IBK) who has been awarded the Austrian Art Award for Fine Arts 2013. This yearly BMUKK award features established artists for their multifaceted art work, a rich oeuvre and continuing artistic development.

CALL: PEEK 2014 - ARTS-BASED RESEARCH PROJECTS

The Austrian Science Fund (FWF) this year again invites to submit innovative arts-based research projects, i.e. projects in which artistic practice is integral to the inquiry. Project duration may be up to 36 months. All proposals have to be submitted in English and shall include an elaborated project design, referring to the current state of the art and defining clear aims and questions as well as a corresponding arts-based methodology.

CALL: DAN DAVID PRIZE SCHOLARSHIPS

The Dan David Prize is a joint international enterprise, endowed by the Dan David Foundation and headquartered at Tel Aviv University. It recognizes and encourages innovative and interdisciplinary research that cuts across traditional boundaries and paradigms. The selected topic for the current call is "Past - History & Memory", i.e. the question of how the past shapes and is shaped by the present. Annually twenty scholarships of US$ 15,000 each are awarded to outstanding doctoral and postdoctoral students of exceptional promise (10 at Tel Aviv University, 10 all over the world).

CALL: VISUAL ART EXHIBITION PROJECTS | KUNSTHALLE BRATISLAVA

This Open Call invites for submitting exhibition projects, which will be realized in 2014 in the space of the newly reconstructed Kunsthalle LAB. Kunsthalle LAB* is the part of the exhibition space of the nascent Kunsthalle Bratislava and would like to present the most recent, overlapping manifestations of visual art. Projects shall be of inter-active character, work with light and sound, and confront in general the traditional perception of art as an exclusively 'artistic' discipline.

CALL: … INCOMING SIGNAL | PRAGUE LIGHT FESTIVAL 2014

SIGNAL is an annual international festival of light taking place in a magical city centre of Prague. They are currently calling for high-quality artistic proposals. CALL: RED CARPET ART AWARD 2014

This call invites young artists to apply for the "Red Carpet Art Award for Young Art 2014". The award includes an exhibition in Vienna, several group exhibitions at galeries and off-spaces. Furthermore selected works will be purchased. Among others, students from the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna who graduated in winter term 2012/13 or later can apply.

CALL: PAUL CELAN FELLOWSHIPS FOR TRANSLATORS 2014|15

The Paul Celan Fellowship Program of IWM (Institute for Human Sciences) and ERSTE Foundation supports translations from Eastern to Western, Western to Eastern, or between two Eastern European languages of canonical texts and contemporary key works in the Humanities, Social Sciences and Cultural Studies. Special emphasis is put on translations of relevant works written by East European authors and/or by female scholars. A thematic relation to one of the research fields of the IWM is likewise welcomed.

CALL: 19th CALL IN THE FRAMEWORK OF FFG'S BRIDGE PROGRAMME

The BRIDGE Programme aims to close the "funding gap" between basic and applied research. It provides funding for projects which are predominantly of a basic research character but which demonstrate a realistic potential for commercialisation so that one or more companies are prepared to act as partners and contribute to financing. Funding is available for any research subject.

CALL: REHEAT 2014 - "VERY"

The multidisciplinary Festival "Reheat 2014" takes the word "VERY", without any context, as its starting point. Northern Burgenland's agricultural-desert is a vast land, providing a lot of space for ideas and their realizations. At Kleylehof, VERY small and VERY big things can merrily co-exist, as well as VERY loud and VERY quiet stuff. Reheat 2014 wants to feature works that exaggerate or diminish specific ideas in one way or another, works that push borders. Artistis who have not participated in last year's festival are invited to submit their proposals.

CALL: KUNSTPAVILLON AND NEUE GALERIE INNSBRUCK - EXHIBITION PROGRAMME 2015

The Tiroler Künstlerschaft invites to suggested projects and portfolios for the exhibition programme 2015 in the Kunstpavillon and in the Neue Galerie of the Tiroler Künstlerschaft in Innsbruck. Five exhibitions are scheduled in each of the two locations. Applications will be considered from national or international artists, and curators with exhibition experience.

CALL: GRANTS FOR SALZBURG INTERNATIONAL SUMMER ACADEMY

CALL: WTZ - SCIENTIFIC AND TECHNOLOGICAL COOPERATION WITH MONTENEGRO

The current call Scientific and Technological Cooperation with Montenegro invites to submit project proposals for 2015-2016 (2 years). CALL FOR CONTRIBUTIONS: UNCONFERENCE - GENEVA 2014

A space to process and resonate questions of form in Artistic Research is an unconference. The 2014 Swiss Artistic Research Network unconference will take place on 13 and 14 November 2014 in Geneva. The call invites to propose process/practice-based artistic research projects that embed questions of time and space into the research itself to be presented and discussed conceptually and aesthetically.
