CONGRATULATIONS: KfW-AWARD "CONSTRUCTION AND HOUSING" FOR MICHELLE HOWARD

Michelle Howard (Institute for Art and Architecture) has won the 1st prize of the KfW Award "Construction and Housing" 2014, awarded by the KfW Group (KfW Bankengruppe). She received the award for her Stacked House in Berlin Weissensee.

CONGRATULATIONS: CITY OF BADEN RECOGNITION AWARD FOR CHRISTIAN BAZANT-HEGEMARK

Christian Bazant-Hegemark (2011 Diploma with Gunter Damisch, currently doctoral candidate supervised by Elisabeth von Samsonow) has been awarded the City of Baden Recognition Award for Fine Arts and Architecture. Our congratulations!

CONGRATULATIONS: WOMEN AWARD FOR VERONIKA SCHWEDIAUER

The newly founded Women Award of the City of Wels has been awarded to Veronika Schwediauer, coordinator of the Center for Doctoral Studies at the Academy since 1 March 2014. She won the prize for her dissertation in political sciences addressing gender differences in the recruitment and political careers of Austrian ministers. Our congratulations!

CALL: FWF | START PROGRAMME

The START Programme of the Austrian Science Fund (FWF) offers outstanding young researchers of any discipline the funding to guild up or consolidate their own research groups thereby qualifying themselves for senior scientific positions. Application requirements include: 2 to 8 years after completion of doctoral degree, exceptional international track record incl. research stay abroad of at least one year. The funding volume will be between 800,000 and 1.2 mio. Euro for 6 years. The funding decision will be taken by an international jury in June 2015.

CALL: FWF I SCIENCE COMMUNICATION PROGRAMME 2014

Project leaders of funded FWF-projects may apply for up to 50,000 Euros to implement corresponding science communcation measures to inform the broader public about their research. Language of application is German.

CALL: FWF | JOINT PROJECTS AND SEMINARS WITH JAPAN

The Austrian Science Fund FWF and its Japanese counterpart JSPS currently invite to submit bilateral proposals for either joint research projects or joint seminars involving Austrian and Japanese partners. The Austrian part has to be submitted to FWF, the Japanese part to the JSPS:

CALL: DOC-TEAM | DOCTORAL FELLOWSHIPS FOR INTERDISCIPLINARY TEAMS IN SSH

Doc-team is a funding programme run by the Austrian Academy of Sciences (ÖAW). Its purpose is to enable young, excellent doctoral candidates from the humanities, cultural studies and social sciences (SSH) to carry out their dissertation project by cooperating on a research project across disciplinary boundaries in teams of 3-4 members.

Eligibility Requirements are maximum age of 30 years (exceptions possible) or max. 4 years after completion of the Diploma or Master degree. The granted amount of funding is 35,000 Euro per person (annually before tax), in addition, max. 4,000 Euro for travel expenses; maximum funding duration: 36 months.

CALL: ARTIST-IN-RESIDENCE-PROGRAMME 2015 | KULTURKONTAKT AUSTRIA

In co-operation with KulturKontakt Austria, the Austrian Federal Chancellery offers 50 residencies in Vienna for the year 2015. The residency is designed to offer an opportunity to familiarise oneself with the Austrian art scene and cultural environment and to make contact with Austrian creative artists. Residents are expected to complete a project during their stay.

CALL: DISSERTATION COMPETITION | BARBARA BUDRICH PUBLISHERS

Since 2005 Barbara Budrich Publishers issue this call for dissertations, where a jury selects a doctoral thesis to be published (free of charge) in the publication series promotion. The call addresses doctoral thesis (in German or English) from the fields of Educational Sciences, Gender Studies, Political Sciences, Social Work, and Sociology; graduation date within the last 12 months. Only "magna cum laude" thesis will be considered by the jury.

CALL: CURATOR IN RESIDENCE-PROGRAMME 2015 | BELVEDERE/21ER HAUS

The Belvedere/21er Haus Curator in Residence programme is intended for curators worldwide who would like to conduct research for three to five months in the Belvedere/21er Haus, particularly on a subject relevant to the museum's collection. The CIR-programme is aimed at curators and researchers who have a relevant university background and curating experience. There is no age limit.

Grant: 1,000 euros per month, a furnished apartment in the Lower Belvedere with a workstation.

CALL: WTZ - SCIENTIFIC AND TECHNOLOGICAL COOPERATION WITH PARTNERS ABROAD

The current call Scientific and Technological Cooperation invites to submit project proposals for 2015-2016. Aim of the program is to intensify international scientific cooperation of Austrian scientists with scientists from the partner country by financing mobility costs within the framework of bilateral scientific cooperation projects.

CALL: MARIETTA BLAU GRANT

The Marietta Blau Grant addresses highly qualified doctoral candidates enrolled at an Austrian university (max. 6 semester at date of application). It offers financial support for carrying out part of the doctoral research abroad. The grant enables 6 - 12 months of research worldwide.

CALL: CREATIVE EUROPE - COOPERATION PROJECTS

Cooperation projects are a key instrument within the new EU funding programme Creative Europe. It aims to support the capacity of the European cultural and creative sectors to operate transnationally and internationally. You need a minimum of three partners from at least three countries to apply for smaller scale cooperation project (max. 200,000 Euro funding volume), and a minimum of six partners from six countries for large scale cooperation projects (max. 2 mio. Euro). Note, it is co-funding only, i.e. project partners have to provide considerable in-kind contributions (up to 50% of project volume).

CALL: ART AGAINST VIOLENCE. AGAINST VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN

The competition invites students at Austrian Art Universities as well as graduates and artists to submit their works (painting, graphic art, photography, artistic interventions) on the named topic. Three prizes for students (500 Euro each) will be awarded, a total of 6,000 Euro is available to be awarded to a maximum of three artists.

CALL: SCHLOSS SOLITUDE RESIDENCIES 2015-17

The Akademie Schloss Solitude in Stuttgart (Germany) offers an interdisciplinary and international fellowship program for young artists and scientists (max 35 years old). The Akademie supports artists in the disciplines of architecture, visual arts, performing arts, design, literature, music/sound and video/film/new media with residency and work fellowships. Furthermore, young people from the science and business sectors are also eligible for fellowships with the art, science & business programme. Benefits include a furnished apartment/studio for three to twelve months, a montly stipend of 1,000 Euro plus travelling costs.

CALL FOR PAPERS: DESIGNeD ASIA CONFERENCE

The Conference aims to provide a practical platform for international design educators and professionals to share views, knowledge and experiences on Design Education. This year's theme is ACTION! Doing Design Education. The organisers are thus inviting papers exploring different aspects of an action-oriented, experience-oriented, constructivist-grounded view of design education, involving doing the "real thing" in "real time" in the "real world".

CALL FOR PAPERS: JOURNAL FOR ARTISTIC RESEARCH | JAR 7 + 8

The Journal for Artistic Research (JAR) is published by the Society for Artistic Research (SAR) and works with an international editorial board and a large panel of peer-reviewers. Unlike the traditional journal article format, JAR offers its contributors a free-to-use online writing space where text can be woven together with image, audio, and video material etc. JAR aims to display research practice in a manner that respects artists' modes of presentation and incorporates web-enabled possibilities for collaboration, debate, and discussion.

CALL FOR PAPERS: "COMPARED TO WHAT?" | POPCONGRESS 2015

From 29 - 31 January 2015 the 7th annual convention of of the "Popular Culture and Media division" within the "German Association for Media Studies" (GfM) "COMPARED TO WHAT? On the Relation Between Normativity and Subversion in Pop Cultural Contexts" will take place at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna. The organisers currently invite to submit conference contributions. There will also be a special format called research workshop, to present research papers from bachelor theses to dissertations. Presentations can be held either in German or in English.

ELIA (European league of Institutes of the Arts) s pleased to announce the 7th ELIA Teachers'

Academy - ENACT: Learning in/through the Arts, which brings together lecturers from Higher Arts Education across Europe and beyond. The Academy will take place from 10 to 12 May 2015. The working language of the ELIA Teachers' Academy will be English.
