we are happy to present Art | Research News No. 11, presenting current calls and deadlines.

In particular we would like to draw your attention to the current call for project proposals within FWF's programme for arts-based research projects (PEEK). Note, that this year's deadline for submission is on 24 April 2013. FWF also offers a coaching workshop for applicants, taking place on 25 March 2013. The Academy may reimburse the participation fee upon submission of a PEEK proposal.

We will support you during the application phase. If you do have a project idea or related questions, kindly contact m.glanz@akbild.ac.at.

CONGRATULATION: BMWF PRIZES FOR BEST DISSERTATION AND BEST DIPLOMA THESIS

We congratulate Nora Sternfeld for winning the "Award of Excellence", which is awarded for the best dissertation of the last study year. Her dissertation was supervised by Elke Gaugele at IKL.

Congratulations also go to Magdalene Schindler. Her diploma thesis, which was supervised by Wolfgang Baatz (IKR), has also been recognized as the best of the last study year.

CONGRATULATION: 4 WINNERS / COMPETITION SCHILLER

We congratulate Johannes Franz, Philipp Leissing, Thomas Lehner and Anna Reisenbichler, who won the competition SCHILLER, a cooperation of the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna with SEESTE Bau AG. The works are exhibited in public space at the building site Schillerplatz 4, together with eight also chosen works.

CONGRATULATION:SVEART-SPECIAL CONSIDERATION FOR THERESA EIPELDAUER

Theresa Eipeldauer received a special consideration at the first Saint Vincent European Art Prize. The award ceremony and exhibition opening took place on 29 November 2012 at Saint-Vincent, Italy.

CALL: WWTF SUMMER SCHOOLS - PUBLIC SPACES IN TRANSITION

The call for interdisciplinary and international summer schools within WWTF's theme of "Public Spaces in Transition" is still open. Applicants may submit proposals for a 5 - 14 days long summer school in 2014; maximum funding volume is 25,000 Euro.

CALL: PEEK 2013 - ARTS-BASED RESEARCH PROJECTS

The Austrian Science Fund (FWF) currently invites to submit innovative arts-based research projects, i.e. projects in which in which artistic practice is integral to the inquiry. Project duration may be up to 36 months. All proposals have to be submitted in English and shall include an elaborated project design, referring to the current state of the art and defining clear aims and questions as well as a corresponding arts-based methodology.

FWF again offers a Coaching Workshop for applicants: 25 March 2013, for more information and registration for participation contact FWF (gerit.oberraufner@fwf.ac.at). The participation fee (120 Euro) can be reimbursed by the Academy upon submission of a PEEK proposal.

CALL: STRABAG ARTAWARD INTERNATIONAL 2013

The STRABAG Artaward International is an international subsidy award for artists under the age of forty in the fields of painting and drawing. Young artists from Austria, Poland, Russia and Romania are invited to compete for the STRABAG Artaward International. A precondition for taking part in this award is that the artist has a systematic, artistic education (i.e. students or graduates). The main prize of the Artaward is 15,000 Euro. In addition, there are four runners-up prizes of 5,000 Euro each.

CALL: ANIMATED FASHION AWARD 2013

The Animated Fashion Award's aim is to encourage the collaboration between fashion schools and animation classes and is initiated by Breuninger and the International Festival of Animated Film Stuttgart. Films on the subject of fashion can be submitted. Prizes: 1,000 Euro each for the best three films, first prize 2,000 Euro.

CALL: 100 PAINTERS OF TOMORROW

100 Painters of Tomorrow is initiated by editor-curator Kurt Beers and the publishers Thames & Hudson, intended to find the 100 most exciting painters at work today. The open call submission is international and open to any artist who uses paint as their primary medium. There is no age limit for entry, but each of the selected artists should have gained professional recognition in the last five years (that is, since 2008/09). Submissions will be judged by an international jury. 100 Painters of Tomorrow will be published as a book in 2014 and accompanied by a major exhibition of contemporary painting at London's Institute of Contemporary Arts.

CALL: GRANTS FOR THE SALZBURG INTERNATIONAL SUMMER ACADEMY FOR FINE ARTS

The Salzburg International Summer Academy for Fine Arts offers about 90 grants concerning fees for courses in July and August 2013. The Academy also informs about subsidies for travel and hotel costs.

CALL: 20 SECONDS FOR ART

20 Seconds for Art is an open, single-stage design competition for an artistic spot on the subject of art in Vienna's public space. The call is directed at artists, students of art, graphic art, or film, graduates in these fields, as well as persons working in the sphere of art from Austria and abroad who are at least eighteen years old.

The classic-clip 2013 competition seeks to encourage university students studying video art to engage with a piece of music by a modernist composer - this year Claude Debussy. Prizes: first prize 1,000 Euro, second prize 600 Euro, third prize 400 Euro.
