The University Council, together with the Rector's Office and the Senate, is one of the three leading collegial bodies of the university. Its tasks have been defined in the Universities Act of 2002 and comprise e.g. the authorization of the Development Plan, the Organization Plan, the draft of the Performance Agreement and the Statutes of the Rector’s Office as well as the Rector’s election from three candidates proposed by the Senate, and the employment contract to be concluded with her/him.
The Rector's Office (Rektorat) is held by Rector Eva Blimlinger and Vice-Rectors Andrea B. Braidt (Art | Research) and Karin Riegler (Teaching | Promotion of Early Stage Artists/Researchers). The Rector's Office is head of the Academy of Fine Arts and acts as its representative in public affairs. The Network for the Advancement of Women is assigned to the Rector's office and aims to promote equal opportunities and gender studies at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna.
According to the Universities Act of 2002, the Senate functions as one of the main management bodies of the Academy, next to the Rector's Office and the University Council. The Senate is responsible for important decisions to be made in study and exam matters. The Senate consists of members of the following groups: professors (13), other teaching staff (Mittelbau) (6), students (5) and administration (1).
