At the suggestion and request of the Institute of Fine Arts, no curator was engaged for the conception and development of the annual exhibition this year. Daniel Richter, the artist invited instead, discontinued the approach of his famous predecessors Harald Szeemann, Martin Prinzhorn, Kasper König and Martin Fritz, Barbara Vanderlinden, and Zdenka Badovinac last year.

Richter did not aim at any curatorial selection of individual positions for an exhibition in his work with the students of the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna but rather focused on encounters and discussions for which a one-week workshop titled "Something To Be" (Wir wollen alle werden) provided the setting. The "way" - i.e. the intense confrontation with the students, the development of ideas, and the common work and production process - was more important to him than the presentable result, which he describes as follows:

"What's to be seen? An amateurish video, nebulous and vague, which shows conversations on the Donauinsel at night - a photocopied magazine with contributions by students. Not too much, but sufficient."

Both the video produced in the workshop and the photocopied magazine with its works by students, which does not contain the name of a single author, reflect the cooperative work process.
