How to apply for an (Erasmus) exchange at the Academy of Fine Arts:

Nomination

The exchange coordinator at your home institution must confirm your nomination to the Academy of Fine Arts, Vienna, by e-mail or letter.

Applications from students who are not nominated will not be processed.

Send your application

Applications include a portfolio in printed version which may be added by digital media, the application form, a lettter of motivation, CV and a copy of the passport and have to be sent no later than 31st March or 31st October (the postmark being taken as proof) to following adress:

Selection procedure

When your application is complete it will be forwarded for selection to the professors of the departments/institutes.

The Academy of Fine Arts Vienna reserves the right in accordance with it’s application procedure to give an acceptance for a study place  or to refuse an application. The Academy’s professors base their decisions on the artistic quality oft he portfolio and on the student’s qualification. We hope that you will understand that because of the large number of applications, we are not in a position to offer feedback as to the reasons for the rejection.

Entry and residence

If you take up accomodation or change your place of residence in Vienna, you have to register with the municipal authorities (Magistratisches Bezirksamt) of the City of Vienna with a proof of residence (registration form = Meldezettel) within three days.

EU citizens who stay in Austria for more than three months have to obtain a document authorising their stay from the City of Vienna (www.wien.gv.at; Department 35). This document (Anmeldebescheinigung) costs € 15,-.

Third-country nationals (non-EU citizens) need a visa to enter Austria. The type of visa depends on the duration and purpose of their stay in Austria.

All students have to arrange for an accident and health insurance, a sufficient coverage is necessary for the total length of their stay in Austria.

Registration and enrolment

All classes at the Academy start in the first week of the term. It is absolutely necessary to be present at the first class meeting.
The Welcome Meeting for incoming students organised by the International Office takes place in the first week of the term. At this meeting you will get all necessary information for a successful start into the semester.

Upon arrival you have to pre-register in the Akademie Online System and come to the International Office for further instructions (Monday to Thursday, 9-12 a.m.).

Students who take part in an exchange programme of a partner university (Erasmus or other bilateral cooperation) to study at the Academy are exempt from study fees. It is necessary to pay the students' union fee of € 18,00- per term (obligatory membership of the Austrian Students' Union. This fee includes a liability insurance valid in the buildings of the Academy).

Learning Agreement

We will finalize your Learning Agreement upon your arrival.

Transcript of Records (Datenabschrift or Sammelzeugnis)
will be available at the end of the term, or the end of your exchange period, at the Study Department (Studienabteilung, room M3, Schillerplatz 3; studienabteilung@akbild.ac.at). Please check the Akademie Online System to see whether all your classes have been entered and confirmed by the respective professors.
