Part 1

1. Online-Registration
16th January 2017 / 10am until 3rd February 2017 / 4pm at www.akbild.ac.at/admission

In the course of the online registration, personal details (first and last name, date of birth, etc.) as stated in the valid passport, must be used. If desired, the artist name can also be specified in the "Artist name" field.

Within the framework of the online application, each applicant will receive a registration number, which is required in the further application process.

In order to specify the artist's self-assessment, one of the following three Studio Groups must be selected as part of the online application.
Painting: includes the studio practice of Abstract Painting, Graphic Art, Figurative Painting, Expanded Pictorial Space (Prof. Richter), Contextual Painting
Sculpture: includes the studio practice of Object-Sculpture, Performative Art & Sculpture, Art in Public Space, Expanded Pictorial Space-Action (Prof. Huemer), Textual Sculpture
Media: includes the studio practice of Video and Video Installation, Art and Digital Media, Art and Film, Art and Photography, Performative Art, Conceptual Art

At the end of a complete online registration all applicants will receive a confirmation by e-mail. (Please indicate a valid / active e-mail address and check your junk folder, just in case)

2. Submission of work sampes/portfolios

Submission of work samples is only possible after online registration during the above mentioned period.

Personal submission: Monday, 27th March 2017 from 10am - 5pm

The submission of work samples/portfolios by e-mail or by post/courier service is excluded.

A personal submission cannot be accepted before or after 27th March 2017.

Please label your work sample/portfolio carefully on the outside with:
- Name and online registration number
- A note whether a USB stick is included in the work sample/portfolio (see "Work sample recommendation")

Work samples/portfolios - recommendation:
It is expected that the applicants submit independent artistic works which illustrate certain interests, realisations and motivations as well as methods of work. The selection of works should be based on the applicant´s own artistic practice. It is recommended that works, which have been produced in secondary school or various art-courses, be submitted only when they support the applicant´s own personal artistic position. The work samples should serve to demonstrate the applicant´s aptitude for independent artistic thinking and working, there are no requirements concerning quantity or size (exceptions: see the following requirements for audio-/video works). The work sample/folder should be designed in that way, that it can be transported by one person. All written parts of a work sample / portfolio must be printed as part of the portfolio. Written parts of the application on USB stick are not accepted.

Only Audio- and video works and the documentation of performances shall be submitted on USB sticks, being to be put into an envelope. Both the envelope and the USB stick must be clearly marked with the online application number and the name of the applicant.
video formats: h.264 (mp4), h.265 (mp4), MOV - up to 1920 x 1080 resolution, data rate (bit rate) 40 mbit/s
audio formats: mp3, AAC, WAV, AIFF

3. Viewing of submitted works by the board of admission:
28th – 30th March 2017 (without applicants)

4. Announcement of the preliminary result:
Friday, 31st March 2017 from 10am
All applicants will be notified by e-mail about the preliminary result and the list of those invited to take the entrance examination will be published at the Academy's official notice board.

5. Collection of work samples:
Friday, 31st March 2017 10am - 5pm
Lehargasse 8 / 2nd floor / Mehrzwecksaal, 1060 Vienna
A postal return is not possible.

Part 2

1. Oral examination including personal interview:
3rd and 4th and 5th April 2017, from 9am - 5pm (Monday to Wednesday)
During the three examination days and for a personal meeting, the applicants have to be present in person to prepare work samples. The applicants can work freely; there is no specification of technique or subject. Work materials are not provided by the Academy and are therefore to be brought along.
The work produced during the oral examination, together with the portfolio submitted, form the basis for the decision of the Board of Admission on admittance to study.

2. Announcement of the final result:
Thursday, 6th April 2017 from 12 noon
All applicants will be notified by e-mail and the list of applicants admitted to study at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna will be published at the Academy's official notice board.

3. Collection of work samples / removal of the work done at the acadamy:
Thursday, 6th April 2017 10am - 5pm
Lehargasse 8 / 2nd floor, 1060 Vienna
A postal return is not possible.
The Academy of Fine Arts Vienna cannot be made liable for the portfolios submitted or for works produced on location.
