Submission of the examination assignment

By post: from until May 3nd, 2015.

The date of the postmark does not count but instead the written answers to the assignment questions must arrive at the academy by May 3rd at the latest.

Assessment the assignment by a commission: May 4th until May 17th, 2015, 5 pm.

Applicants invited for a personal interview / oral examination will be notified most probably on May 21st  by email or shortly afterwards by post.

Oral examination of the invited applicants by a panel: June 22nd and June 23rd, from 9 am to 5 pm at the Institut für Kunst- und Kulturwissenschaft (Institute for Art Theory and Cultural Studies), room M20.  During the course of this examination the jury will also test your language skills (German on B2 level is required).

Please keep this date free. The commission will decide on who will be admitted after this date (June 24th, 2015). The results will be relayed to you by email. In case of a negative result the jury cannot explain their reasons in each individual case.

Following documents are required for the application:

  • Please complete the application form (online registration)
  • Send a curriculum vitae
  • A description of a possible final project in the sense of this programme with acedemic and artistic components
  • A documentation of your previous artistic and/or acedemic practice

Examination Assignment: Please sketch an artistic-academic project you could envisage wanting to realise as a Master's thesis at the end of the programme. This project should combine scholarly and artistic components in an interdisciplinary way. Elucidate on the type of research methods you intend resorting to, how and whether you intend discussing questions pertaining to the arts or cultural studies, which artistic techniques for design and realisation might be employed. In which social context could your project be relevant, do you have a certain public in mind, how is it to be involved?

Length: Please submit no more than 10,000 characters preferably and no less than 4,000.

Form: Use your own words but define your terminology. You are not expected to apply a specific academic or artistic jargon. Substantiate your decisions.

Language: Your text can be composed in either German or English.
