Originating from “women-specific teaching appointments” established with special funding from the Federal Ministry of Science (based at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna since 1996), gender/queer lectureships have been a fixed part of the Academy Women’s Advancement Plan since 2004. Courses in the areas of gender/queer studies at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna have meanwhile become part of the syllabus of all branches of study. Gender/queer lectureships substantively expand and complement the courses offered in the gender/queer studies research and teaching programs at the level of individual departments and disciplines of study. The selection of gender/queer lectureships is made through a call for proposals held annually at the beginning of the summer semester.

In the summer semester 2017/18, gender/queer lectureships at the Academy were evaluated. The process involved both the perspective of lecturers and of students enrolled in the courses. The evaluation focus was on how the offering and the teaching was perceived by students and lecturers, how they assess the thematic emphasis, and integration, of the gender/queer lectureship program, and what they would like to see in the future. The project was conceived together with the Coordination Office for Advancement of Women | Gender Studies | Diversity and the Quality Management department and eventually conducted by the Quality Management department. The objective of the evaluation project is the further development of gender/queer lectureships at the Academy on the basis of the results polled—not least with special consideration for the interests of students and lecturers.
