The Academy of Fine Arts Vienna has been a leading European training center for artists for more than 300 years. As a university, the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna is especially dedicated to teaching processes based on research and art alike, i.e. on scientific and artistic research, the findings of which are integrated into the curricula in different ways and communicated to a wider public through exhibitions, symposia, lectures and a publication series.

The major regulations for the current state YELLOW are summarized here:

YELLOW = Dual mode

Presence mode and parallel or simultaneous distance mode: Teaching and research as well as general operation are generally carried out at the university. Certain groups of people (e.g. risk groups, international students, etc.) who cannot be present on a regular basis due to COVID-19 prevention measures are offered distance mode.

Due to the current Covid 19 situation, this year's annual tour did not take place in the usual form in January, but instead goes "all year round!" The students of the academy, together with their teachers, have developed a variety of presentation options on different communication channels as well as in public space and thus offer a program that extends throughout the year.

Die Jury hat den Birgit Jürgenssen Preis 2021 Aykan Safoğlu zuerkannt. Sie zeichnet damit einen Künstler aus, dessen Arbeiten durch unterschiedliche Medialitäten wie Film, Fotografie, Collage, Zeichnung und Performance beeindrucken. In Ausstellungen überschreitet der Künstler gängige Displaylösungen und stellt seine Werke als skulpturale Raumsettings vor. Aykan Safoğlu ist PhD-in-Practice-Student an der Akademie der bildenden Künste Wien.

Die österreichische Autorin Friederike Mayröcker ist am heutigen Freitag im Alter von 96 Jahren in Wien gestorben. Mayröcker zählte zu den am höchsten dekorierten heimischen Schriftsteller_innen. 2010 wurde ihr die Ehrenmitgliedschaft der Akademie der bildenden Künste Wien verliehen.

Opening Weekend | 08.10.2021 - 10.10.2021

The Academy of Fine Arts Vienna will return to its historic building on Schillerplatz over the summer after extensive renovation and modernisation. Opening exhibitions in collaboration with the Indian curator trio Raqs Media Collective will mark the end of the move on 8 October 2021 and will be open to all visitors on 9 and 10 October from 10 am to 6 pm with free admission.
