Akademie der bildenden Künste Wien

Newsletter Art and Research, January 2026

Dear colleagues,
dear alumni_ae,

We hope you had a good start to the new year. 2026 is once again kicking off with many new submission and funding opportunities, which we will be informing you about in this year's first newsletter.

The WWTF has opened a call on Digital Humanism. It offers funding for interdisciplinary research projects that address digital technologies and practices from a human-centered and societal perspective (deadline: 15.4.2026, 14h). An information event on the call will be held 11 March 2026.

With regard to career advancement programs for postdocs, we would like to draw your attention to the Academy's Scholarship for Early Post Doc Applications (deadline: 17.2.2026, 11h). The scholarship enables intensive work on a project application for OeAW programs such as APART-GSK (deadline: 30.3.2026) as well as for the FWF-funded ESPRIT program, which accepts applications on an ongoing basis.

We would like to point out that the BMWKMS offers funding for individual projects in the fields of fine arts, design, fashion, photography, and media art (deadline: 28.2.2026). You can also apply for individual project funding in Science from the City of Vienna on an ongoing basis or with bi-annual deadlines, depending on the scope of the project (deadline: 30.4.2026).

To our great delight, three new projects at the Academy are funded in the OeAW's Heritage Science program. The Academy has the lead in two projects, underpinning its role as one of the central institutions and a sought-after cooperation partner in the field of Heritage Science in Austria.

On that note, we look forward to numerous submissions and successes in 2026!

With best regards from Art | Research | Support,
Michaela Glanz, Katharina Heinz, Katharina Meissl, Julia Preisker, Sabine Priglinger, Paul Reiter
