Gender und Space Gastprofessur
The Gender and Space programme combines approaches of art and art theory with the aim of developing themes practically and theoretically and reflecting on one's own approach. The thematic focus of the programme is the reciprocal conditionality of spatial orders (Löw 2001) and gender orders, which are produced, updated and reworked in a processual manner. It examines the ways in which the accessibility and usability of spaces are shaped by attributions based on race, class, gender, ability, age and other factors. For which people are which spaces - depending on race, class, gender, ability, age and other factors - accessible or closed? How can we intervene in these spatial orders?
In joint work, artistic approaches are explored and developed to intervene in spatial orders (which are always also gender orders), to question or rework them. This is done through an intensive examination of theoretical positions and selected works of art as well as through artistic-practical work.
The courses offered are open to all fields of study. A transdisciplinary approach is used, which offers space for the diverse working methods of art and artistic-scientific research. The central point is to open up spaces and cross borders, to spread out and at the same time go into detail and engage in processes of searching, groping, discarding and superimposing. Especially in artistic or artistic-scientific work, there is not only one right way, it is rather a matter of taking one or more of the possible paths and thereby also understanding slippage or apparent failure as productive. The program offers the opportunity to discuss and reflect on ideas and concepts in the group and to support each other in their implementation. In this way, a process of learning from each other is initiated.
