Vortrag von Petra Stegmann organisiert von der Freien Klasse der Akademie der bildenden Künste Wien in Zusammenarbeit mit Leo Findeisen.

The paper will present some crucial aspects of Fluxus, its historical genealogy, introduce some protagonists (like George Maciunas, George Brecht, Alison Knowles, Dick Higgins, Ben Patterson, Ben Vautier, Eric Andersen, Tomas Schmit, Mieko Shiomi, Milan Knížák) and will then focus on Fluxus compositions and performances. Questions to be discussed are: What are the special qualities of the Fluxus score? In how far does Fluxus differ from other genres of action art? Is Fluxus really about participation? What about Fluxus today? Can or should Fluxus be re-enacted?

Petra Stegmann , born in Bremen, is an independent art historian, curator and author, living in Potsdam. She studied art history and Slavic studies at the Free University Berlin, the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz and the University of Warsaw. She has worked among others for the Goethe Institute Warsaw and the House of World Cultures, Berlin, where she conceived and organised conferences and curatorial projects.
