Die drei führenden Wiener Architekturschulen haben sich zusammengeschlossen, um einen öffentlichen Dialog darüber zu initiieren, wie moderne Städte große Industriegebiete strategisch neu denken können. Der Übergang von der Logik des Industriezeitalters zu umweltbewusster Planung verläuft alles andere als nahtlos. Wir stehen vor Herausforderungen von beispielloser Komplexität und müssen das Fachwissen verschiedenster Disziplinen nutzen, um realistische Ansätze für eine urbane Transformation im großen Maßstab zu entwickeln.

Vienna, with its layered history of industrial development, offers a rich and timely context for these discussions.

The event will feature dynamic problem statements from leading practitioners and academics in the field. On-stage interviews with chief architects of European cities and regions—including Kristiaan Borret, Floris Alkemade, and Finn Williams—will complement the more theoretical presentations by keynote speakers with insights drawn from real-life planning experience.

Experts from all three organising schools will contribute to the discussion, alongside representatives from the City of Vienna and several development companies.

The Symposium is followed by the public presentation of the September School ‘The Competition of Competitions’,initiated by the three Viennese architecture schools. The September School, which we are organising under the same umbrella theme, brings together international students and tutors to jointly develop new designs for the redevelopment of the so-called Opel Works, a kilometre-long building of the former car factory on the outskirts of Vienna.
