Michaela Büsse, as editor of Migrant Journal , will be here to present and discuss the 6th edition of Migrant . This event is part of the chapter Migration of Forms / Forms of Migration. This chapter of our arts-based research project Curating the Urban addresses conditions of (ex-)change and thus the dimension that is a fundamental prerequisite for contemporary (individual) subjectivity and spatiality.
Migrant Journal , explores the circulation of people, goods, information, but also fauna and flora, around the world and the transformative impact they have on space.
About Migrant Journal No.6 ‘ Foreign Agents ’ Migrant subjects create migrant imaginaries. Ideas, customs, technologies and expressive forms circulate alongside mobile communities and, in so doing, they mutate, reconfigure and affect surrounding cultures. The very notion of culture is inseparable from these processes of diffusion, friction, transformation and creolisation. When the journeys and experiences of people on the move are documented and represented, migration itself becomes the subject of culture. Rituals and institutions, knowledge and identities, phonemes, pigments and pixels, notions of taste, class, gender or ethnicity migrate across time and space at any given epoch. Today, the advent of machine learning and algorithmic technologies means that many of these migrations occur without being mediated, or even perceived, by humans.
MIGRANT is edited by Justinien Tribillon, Michaela Büsse and Dámaso Randulfe. It's co-edited and designed by Offshore Studio, formed of Isabel Seiffert and Christoph Miler.
Migrant Journal has been featured and reviewed by Metropolis, MagCulture, Creative Review, Monocle and Monocle24, L’Architecture d’Aujourd’hui, It’s Nice That, ZEITmagazin, Vogue Italia. It has been exhibited in Venice, Milan, Tokyo, Tunis, London, Leuven, Basel, Vienna. It has received two commendations for Best Launch of the Year and Best Magazine of the Year at the 2017 Stack Awards.
halfway is a place for the spatialization of acute urban phenomena; a space in which methods of artistic research realize a practice of urban curating and social relationships are translated into design. halfway is the laboratory of the research project Curating The Urban. On Spatializing Urban Conditions by Christina Nägele, Heidi Pretterhofer and Christian Teckert with Linda Lackner. It is funded by the Program for Arts-based Research (PEEK AR00405) of the Austrian Science Fund FWF and is located at the Institute of Art and Architecture at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna.
