Workshop mit Jennifer Allen veranstaltet vom Institut für bildende Kunst, Performative Kunst und Bildhauerei, Profin. Monica Bonvicini.

Does the rise of English as a lingua franca change the way we discuss and make art? Language used to be a marker of a territory, including colonial and imperial powers.

Now, English has become a new global vernacular – Globish – which is used primarily by non-native speakers. The Internet has also facilitated the spread of Globish. Are Globish and digital culture merely tools for communication – or something else?

Dr. Allen is the editor of frieze d/e and has lived in Berlin since 1995 when she came with a DAAD grant. After earning a Ph.D. specializing in Epistemology and Theory at the Université de Montréal, she lectured at many international art academies. She has written a regular column for artforum.com, Mousse and frieze. Her most recent publications include an ebook on documenta 13 as well as essays on the Black Star Photography Archive, Omer Fast, Ulrike Ottinger and digital word-images.
