Open Access Funding

In order to obtain financial support for your Open Access publication, you have the following two options at your disposal:

  1. Our Open Access Publication Fund, and
  2. Potential third-party funds.

The Open Access Publication Fund of the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna

To promote Gold Open Access , the Academy provides funds for any publication costs incurred (article processing charges, APCs in short, or book processing charges, BPCs in short). The choice of publications funded thus rests with the Rector.

For further information, please refer to “Requirements for the funding of Open Access publications”.

Open Access funding by third parties

In both the international and the national contexts, one can observe the growing importance of Open Access not only for science, but also for research policy and funding. The SHERPA/JULIET directory provides the best overview of the research funders’ Open Access policies.

Please note that the policies of several funding bodies can differ from those of the Academy. Therefore, you would be well advised to obtain information on Open Access funding directly from the respective organization.

Owing to the value placed on monographs not only by the humanities, but also by the social sciences and cultural studies, we would like to draw your attention specifically to the FWF (Austrian Science Fund) Program for the Promotion of Stand-Alone Publications in connection with Open Access funding for books.
