New professor for Art and Intervention | Concept as of 1.10.: Wendelien van Oldenborgh
We warmly welcome Wendelien van Oldenborgh (Univ.prof. Art and Intervention | Concept, Institute for Fine Arts) to the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna!
In a moment of changing and charged cultural relations and heavy conservative forces reacting on these changes, there is a need to focus on different modes of perception and production of narrative. The focus of my teaching for the class Art and Intervention | Concept —as it is in my artistic work—is the enabling of critical and differentiated thinking. Not only for us as makers, but enabling that possibility for a viewer through the work. Since I believe we develop this creative critical thinking whilst making, and since I believe that learning is a collective process, I view the processes of making as moments of teaching and learning for all involved.”
wendelien van oldenborgh makes experimental film works in various forms of collaboration with those who appear on the screen which are presented within a contextualising architecture and often -events. Her practice takes a reflective approach towards method, production and viewing. In the extensive projects research plays a large role - insistently practiced through production and collaboration - whereby current social political processes and the structures that form and hinder us, are the motor for each part of the work.
Solo presentations recently include: Dance Floor as Study Room 2024/25 at YCAM, Yamaguchi (JP); unset on-set 2022/23 at MOT, Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo (JP); work, work, work (work) 2021 at Museum Stuki in Lodz (PL); tono lengua boca 2019-20 at CA2M Madrid (ES).
