    #ErasmusDays at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna

    Every year in October, the #ErasmusDays take place across Europe. Numerous institutions present the Erasmus+ programme to a wide audience. This year, between October 14 and 16, the International Office cordially invites students and staff of the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna to participate in the events as part of the Erasmus+ Days!

    DEMOK: ACT AND SPEAK: Democracy Under Pressure

    It is high time to strengthen democratic action. Artists, in particular, are called upon to actively oppose the erosion of democratic structures through teaching, practice, and community-building. As the Academy of Fine Arts, it is clearly our duty to commit ourselves to preserving and safeguarding a democratic society. Starting in October 2026, the long-term DEMOK program will actively invite participants to help shape it and get involved.

Instead of focusing on delivery techniques, the course builds strong foundations: defining a clear message, structuring content, and creating slides that support understanding.

  • Regine Prange: The Heroic in an Age of Decadence. Baudelaire’s Aesthetics of Modernity between Realism and the Supernatural

    Gustave Courbet laid the foundations for modern painting in his rural homeland, Franche-Comté. His friend Charles Baudelaire found, in the city of Paris alone, a ‘heroic’ beauty in modern life that could stand on equal terms with the classical tradition. This lecture traces the poet and art critic’s anti-modern conception of modernity.

    #DIDAKTIK: Articulations, Algorithms, Infrastructures and Social Media in Critical Art Education in Digital Times

    The lecture series #DIDAKTIK Articulations, Algorithms, Infrastructures and Social Media in Critical Art Education in Digital Times poses new questions in the context of the increased use of digital technology in art education.

    It is a joint project between the Department of Art and Education at the Institute for Art Education at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna and the Art Education programme at the Bern University of the Arts (since 2021). 

    This year, the talks are part of the BIP project N—DAE (Network for Digital Art Education) organized by Sophie Lingg and Helena Schmidt (IKL) with the partner universities TU Dresden (Christin Lübke) and University of Porto (Filipa Sofia Correia Carvalho e Cruz & Tiago Barbedo Assis).
