What can we still preserve? Analog and digital film conservation and restoration
Lecture by Reto Kromer, organized by the Institute for Conservation-Restoration.
The presentation addresses the past, present, and future of the transition from analog to digital throughout the speaker's career. It explores the possibilities and limitations of storage facilities on the one hand and digitization on the other. The goal is to preserve as many audiovisual works and documents as possible for future generations. How can we analyze a real-world situation and draw the necessary conclusions to best achieve this ambitious goal? Key concepts include: a scientific approach, pragmatism, openness to constructive compromises, and persuasive power with public and/or private funders.
