The project Dildo Anus Macht: Queere Abstraktion was initiated and conceived by Hans Scheirl as a multi-part artistic-scientific project: it is comprised of a three-day conference at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, a performance program at brut Theater im Künstlerhaus, and a film program at top Kino Vienna, as well as the exhibition curated by
Christiane Erharter and Dietmar Schwärzler Rosa Arbeit auf goldener Straße at the Academy of Fine Art’s xhibit.

The importance of publically discussing gender relations and difference
in the background of material and artistic necessities is especially urgent today: the discussion around queer work and everyday life is virulent, in light of the questioning of post-colonial contexts, issues
of colour, post-pornographic image and sex policies, and many of these discourses have found their way into the mainstream; on the other hand, this has led to a dilution of the issues. In contemporary art and culture, queerness has become an essential, fundamental point of departure, implying socially relevant changes.

Also at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna a queering of teaching and student work has taken place in recent years, influencing fine arts production and scientific research. The conference takes this circumstance as the occasion to discuss inner- and outeracademic tendencies, to demand necessary social changes, and to predict developments in science and bio-political contexts. The three-day conference aims to constructively explore queerness - in the context of varying formats for discussion such as lectures, workshops, as well as curator talks and artist guided tours and performances - as a part of everyday work and life.
