Bourdieu Lectures: From the Left to the Right Hand of the State: Polarizations and Authoritarian Transformations
The Bourdieu Lectures 2026 are an interdisciplinary conference, created as a joint initiative of Bielefeld University, Zeppelin University (Friedrichshafen), Freiburg University of Education and the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna in close cooperation with the Fondation Bourdieu.
Under the title "From the Left to the Right Hand of the State: Polarizations and Authoritarian Transformations," the lectures address the question of the relevance of Pierre Bourdieu's diagnosis of the "left" and "right" hand of the state in light of current social and political developments. The focus is on analyses of authoritarian transformations, social and political polarizations, the entanglement of economic and political elites, and the changes in state governance in the context of global crises.
