Two lectures: Kind of… by Peter Davies and Aesthetics of Cruelty the Beauty of the Morbid by Lara Shahnavaz. Organised by the Studio for Art and Image | Figuration.

Peter Davies is a painter who lives in London. He has made paintings for 30 years and taught at the Slade School of Fine Art for 20, for many years with Alastair Mackinven. The lecture will be about Peter’s practice as an artist. After all this time he feels he’s only kind of… beginning to learn how to look at paintings, and that’s constantly changing how he thinks about making them.

Lara Shahnavaz is a London based artist. She studied at the Ruskin School of Fine Art and Slade School of Fine Art. Aesthetics of Cruelty and the Beauty of the Morbid is a lecture about how beauty can be found in the most tragic, most painful experiences. Death is not an unambiguous annihilation, but the opening up of something new.
