A project in the context of the focus Academy | Art | Public Sphere at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna.

“A bonfire offers a place to gather, get warm, come closer to one another, communicate and cook. While it is provided with fuel, it organizes our actions.”- pg 44 in the orange issue of hinterlands magazine

Warmth gathered Johannes Bodenseer, Marie Häfner, Erik Haugsby, Christian Hoffelner, Benjamin Kasinger, Tabea Marschall, Anna Paul and Daniel Stuhlpfarrer among others. The kiln we built and continue to maintain is located at Wiener Provinz – a field farmed by Joannes Bodenseer– it gives shape to fire, transforming clay into ceramic objects.

Ceramic plates, cups and vessels, lavender, images, tea and text represent the field. They are testimonies of different situations of a coming-together.

We would like to make these experiences available by displaying the results at the farmers market and warmly invite you to join.

To approach the place, to investigate it and to intervene artistically. On this field we will build sculptures with the existing materials, which have a function, that of a furnace, to frame the field and as well as represent meeting places, which will be made accessible to the public. The clayey soil offers the materials for building, as does the wider environment. The confrontation with the place takes place on artistic, as well as theoretical level.
