Admission Examination Fine Arts | Academic Year 2020|2021

This year, the modalities of the admission procedure for the study program fine arts based on the emergency regulation COVID-19 University Admission Regulation - C-HAV and the guideline for oral online exams must be adapted to the current situation.

PART  1

1. Online-Registration

29 th June 2020 / 10am until 24 th July 2020 / 4pm at www.akbild.ac.at/admission

ATTENTION: All applicants who already have registered in February/March must re-register online for technical reasons and receiveva new registration number. These applicants will also receive this information by email.

The work samples / portfolios of those applicants which we received by post / courier service in February / March will be taken into account after renewed online registration and do not have to be uploaded digitally.

Registration for the entrance examination by email is impossible.

In the course of the online registration, personal details (first and last name, date of birth, etc.) as stated in the valid passport, must be used.

If desired, the artist name can also be specified in the "Artist name" field.

In order to specify the artist's self-assessment, one of the following three Studio Groups must be selected as part of the online application.

Painting: includes the studio practice of Abstract Painting, Contextual Painting, Drawing, Expanded Pictorial Space (Prof. Richter), Figurative Painting, Graphic Arts and Printmaking Techniques

Sculpture: includes the studio practice of Art in Public Space, Expanded Pictorial Space-Action (Prof. Huemer), Object-Sculpture, Sculpture and Spatial Strategies, Textual Sculpture

Media: includes the studio practice of Art and Digital Media, Art and Film, Art and Photography, Conceptual Art, Performative Art, Video and Video Installation

After completing the online registration, all applicants will receive a confirmation of registration by email, which contains the registration number and the link with all information for uploading the digital portfolios (enter valid / active email address, check spam folder). The registration number is required in the further course of the application.

2. Submission of work samples/portfolios only digital by upload possible

from 29 th June 2020 / 10am until 24 th July 2020 /4 pm

The digital submission of work samples is only possible after online registration.

The portfolios can only be submitted digitally by upload. Registration and / or submission of work samples / portfolios by email are excluded.

The work samples / portfolios of those applicants which we received by post / courier service in February / March will be taken into account after renewed online registration.

Work samples/portfolios - recommendation :

The work samples serve to demonstrate the ability of independent artistic thinking and working.

It is expected that the applicants submit independent artistic works that show certain interests, implementation skills, motivations and ways of working.

The selection of the works should be made on the basis of one's own artistic work practice. It is recommended to only submit works that have been created at school or various art-courses if they support your own artistic position.

Requirements for digital portfolios

  • The name and registration number must be given on the first page of the file.
  • Submit a portfolio in pdf format with a maximum size of 1 GB.

Links to videos / audio material must be included in the portfolio (links to clouds, Youtube, websites, etc.). If necessary, do not forget to state the password. Applicants are responsible for the functioning of the links. If links do not work, the applicants will not be contacted on our part.

  • The portfolio can be designed according to your own ideas (maximum size 1 GB).
  • The file name of the portfolio file should be as follows: Registrationnumber_Name_Firstname (example file name: 0123_Miller_Anne)

3. Viewing of submitted works by the Board of Admission

24 th August until 31 st August 2020 (without applicants)

4. Announcement of the preliminary result

3 rd September 2020 from 1pm

All applicants will be notified by email about the preliminary result and the list of those invited to take the entrance examination will be published at the Academy's official notice board.

5. Collection of work samples

Information about the collection of work samples / portfolios which we received in February / March will be sent to the applicants by email after the entrance examination has been completed.

PART 2

1. Oral examination by zoom video conference

The oral exam consists of a personal conversation with a professor and their staff about the submitted portfolio and the applicant's artistic practice. The conversation will take about 30 minutes.

The personal interviews with the applicants invited to part 2 will only take place digitally on the following days via the video conference platform Zoom:

8 th September 2020, 9am to 5pm

9 th September 2020, 9am to 5pm

10 th September 2020, 9am to 5pm

11 th September 2020, 9 am to 2 pm

The dates and invitations to the interviews will be sent to the invited applicants by email on 7 th September 2020 between 9am and 5pm

The personal (digital) interview and the portfolio submitted as part of the application part 1 form the basis for the decision of the Board of Admission on admittance to study.

2. Announcement of the final result :

14 th September 2020 from 1pm

All applicants will be notified by email and the list of applicants admitted to study at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna will be published at the Academy's official notice board.
