Due to COVID-19, this year the entire admission procedure for the study program BArch | Bachelor in Architecture at the Institute of Art and Architecture will exceptionally be handled with digital portfolios and the talks will be held using video conferencing tools.

Important: all appointment schedules will be maintained!

In order to registrate the applicant is asked to fill in the online application form; A registration confirmation with link to upload all required documents and application materials will be sent by email.

Application materials:

  • NUMBER OF THE ONLINE REGISTRATION
  • letter of intent
  • copy of your Matura certificate (high school graduation certificate)
  • Proof of  German language proficiency – Level B2 (copy)
  • Proof of  English language proficiency – Level B2 (copy)
  • portfolio with your work

The application procedure for the BArch programme at the Institute for Art and Architecture consists

  • of submitting a portfolio
  • of working on a set of given exercises
  • and a personal interview.

Taking into account these three parts of the admission procedure, the applicants will be selected.

Until 17.06.2021

The applicants submit (Upload) work produced during the assignments, their digital portfolio, and other digital application materials (letter of intent, copy of high school graduation certificate and copy of language certificates German and English Level B2). The upload is to be done via the registration platform. Work arriving with delay cannot be considered.

22.06.2021

The entrance jury reviews the applicants work and selects a shortlist to be invited for a personal (online) interview. Official announcement of the shortlist earliest at 6pm. www.akbild.ac.at/ika

The portfolio is a collection of work samples demonstrating effectively the applicant’s interest in architecture, space, material, textures, use/appropriations, form, light.... This can be shown by using different kind of media: e.g. drawings, sketches, plans, photos, critical writings, scripts, animation, or sound. Digital media should be additionally described on paper through image and text.

The portfolio should be summarized in a PDF document and should not exceed the file size of 1GB. If this is not possible for technical reasons, individual documents and other formats are also permitted.

All files must be marked with the name of the applicant and with the online registration number.

To give you the opportunity to show your work and to talk with teachers for support and advice we offer regular portfolio reviews with video conference from April 2021 on. Dates are on Fridays. Please make an appointment in advance: arch@akbild.ac.at

Letter of intent: in a text of max. one A4 page you should state your motivation and interests to study Architecture at the Academy of fine Arts Vienna.

Language Competency: Please be aware that you have to have proof of your knowledge of the German and the English language (Level B2) before admission but latest before registration.
