The ÖAW Doc offers funding for highly qualified doctoral candidates in all areas of research. The fellowships allow young researchers to dedicate themselves to working in focused fashion to complete their doctoral thesis within a clear timeframe.

Applications for a DOC Fellowship are open to doctoral candidates of all ages who completed their Diplom or Master’s degrees no more than two years ago, are writing their thesis at an Austrian university, and submit a project exposé and a reference from their doctoral supervisor.

The preparation program

Doctoral candidates at the Academy of Fine Arts wishing to apply to the ÖAW Doc can now register themselves for the ÖAW Doc preparation program, an in-house program running through the summer months leading up to the ÖAW Doc deadline on 15 th September 2020.

The preparation program consists of a series of workshops/webinars and feedback rounds. Specifically, the preparation program consists of:

1)      Introductory session to the preparation program and the ÖAW Doc program. Webinar about the program specifics, tips and tricks to applying.

2)      Webinar on grant writing, explaining what makes a grant application successful.

3)      Feedback-round 1: Getting the core elements of your grant into shape.
In this round, you make sure that the major elements of your grant fit together and are coherent (You submit a summation of your research question, contextualization, methods, and will receive feedback on it).

4)      Feedback-round 2: You submit your proposal and receive feedback on the proposal as a whole, focusing on clarity, structure, coherence, and viability.

5)      Feedback-round 3: You submit the final version of your proposal, and you receive a final last check on the proposal.

Timeline: The introductory session and the webinar will take place in July, the feedback rounds in July/August. While full participation in the program is recommended, you can choose to take part only in some program aspects as well.
