Sunggu Hong

Sunggu Hong is mentee of Elizabeth Ward.

Sunggu Hong, born in Seoul, is a Vienna-based artist working in visual and performing arts. He studied Performative Art at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna. “Relation” forms a central concept in his artistic practice. Starting from this, he asks how we can or should live together within interdependent, entangled, and complex relationships, and why exclusion and hatred emerge within these complex relations.

His current interest focuses on the relationship between humans and non-humans. Through focusing on their interdependence and entanglement, he seeks to deconstruct the anthropocentric perspective and reconsider our complex relationships, the dynamics at play within them, and the forms of coexistence that result. The guiding question running through this entire working process is: “How are we raised by one another?”
