Lecture by Gayatri Chakravorty SPIVAK (Columbia University/New York) within the lecture series "Gender Talks" at the invitation of the Gender Research Office at the University of Vienna (together with Mag.a Jule Fischer) and the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, with support from the Department for Development Studies, the Network "Forschungsverbund Geschlecht und Handlungsmacht / Gender and Agency" and the "Österreichische Hochschüler_innenschaft" at the University of Vienna.

The highly influential feminist critical theorist Gaytri Chakravorty SPIVAK (born 1942 in Calcutta /India) is considered pioneer of post-colonial-theory. For her lecture in Vienna, G. C. Spivak will return to her concept of representation as discussed in 'Can the Subaltern Speak?`(1988), and she will refer to her latest book 'An Aesthetic Education in the Era of Globalization' (2012).

Gayatri Chakravorty Spivak is University Professor and a founding member of the Institute for Comparative Literature and Society at Columbia University, New York.
