Filmscreening fromSasha Svirsky and Nadya Svirskaia, Artists in Residence 2022.

Graduated with a painter's diploma Sasha Svirsky switched to animation using it as an artistic tool. Self-taught animator, in 2008 began to work as an independent animation film director. He is an author of more than 30 animated films, an artist, and a director. His films are made with support of his partner and producer Nadya Svirskaia. Some of his films have been selected for the Berlinale Short competition, the Vienna Independent Shorts, and other international festivals, getting numerous awards. His graphic works and animation installations were shown at exhibitions in Russia and abroad.

Nadya Svirskaia is an independent curator and producer who works with art animation. She has produced and run numerous exhibitions in Russian, exploring animation as means of expressing artistic ideas.

The films in the program clearly show Sasha Svirky's opposition to the tradition of a more conventionally narrative Russian animated film. Not without reason, for example, he names Dada as an important source of inspiration for his work, experimental methods of avant-garde film such as fast cutting can be found in his work, but his often playful and seemingly improvised image storms also follow narrative lines and, especially in recent times, clearly show a political motivation against violence and oppression.

Welcome by Vice-Rector Ingeborg Erhart.
Reception with drinks and snacks after the talk.
