The Coordination Office for Women's Advancement | Gender Studies | Diversity invites you to a lecture by  Dr. Anke Lipinsky on the topic of gender-based violence in academic institutions—findings from the EU project UniSAFE—Gender-based violence and institutional responses.

This is the start of a series of lectures on the #metoo debate at art universities in cooperation with the Diversity, Equality/Equal Opportunities and Inclusion Unit at the University of Applied Arts Vienna and the Department of Equality, Gender Studies and Diversity at the mdw – University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna.

A large-scale online survey was an essential part of the EU-funded research project “Gender-based violence and institutional responses” (UniSAFE) in the years 2021–2024. Forty-six universities and research institutions in 15 European countries were surveyed. To supplement the quantitative survey, the research team conducted 54 semi-structured interviews with employees who had experienced gender-based violence in academia.

Dr. Anke Lipinsky presents detailed results from the UniSAFE study, including conceptual innovations that have contributed to expanding knowledge in this area.
The results show that almost two out of three (62%) of the more than 42,000 respondents stated that they had experienced at least one form of gender-based violence within their institution. Furthermore, only 7% of students and 23% of staff who had experienced gender-based violence within their institution reported the incident.

Dr. Anke Lipinsky, Senior Researcher at GESIS – Leibniz Institute for the Social Sciences, Team CEWS, conducts research on gender inequalities in science, gender-based violence, and the effectiveness of gender equality policies. She is responsible for the UniSAFE quantitative survey, is involved in its qualitative research, and is the author of numerous additional evaluations.
