Trigger warning: This presentation addresses experiences of violence and includes authentic images and photos taken in the context of injury documentation.

During the presentation, Matthäa Ritter-Wurnig will be available for one-on-one discussions as awareness representative.

The focus is on what happens after an experience of violence: How does care proceed in the hospital? What should be taken into account, and what steps are necessary to secure evidence that will hold up in court, if desired? What support options are available afterward? Using a case study, the presentation will explain in a practical manner how medical staff proceed, what rights victims have, and how documentation and care are handled in a sensitive and structured manner.

The presentation will provide accessible, foundational knowledge and raise awareness of the necessary steps to take in cases of physical violence, both for those affected and for their loved ones.

Participants will gain insights into procedures and support services, which will help break down barriers and strengthen their ability to take action in both professional and personal settings. There will be an opportunity to ask anonymous questions via Mentimeter.

This presentation by experts from the Victim Protection Group at Vienna General Hospital (AKH), the Examination Center for Victims of Violence, and the Forensic Examination Center for Children and Adolescents (FOKUS) at the University Clinic for Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine of the Medical University of Vienna is open to all interested staff members and students.
