The exhibition Zu Hause warten die Möbel (The Furniture’s Waiting at Home) explores the perception of living spaces and their furnishings. Each room is given its own character by the people who inhabit and furnish it. The artists Nina Gross and Donya Aalipour try to capture this character in drawings and collages.

When you move into a new apartment, it is empty and strange. Initially, rooms are unfamiliar and uninhabited objects. It takes a process to settle in, choose furniture, colors, and decorative objects, and thus lend the room a personal touch. These decisions often reflect the residents’ lifestyle, interests, and leisure activities.

Drawing a room allows to reexperience it and reflect its design. What matters are not the individual objects but the perception of the entire space, which each artist interprets differently.

The exhibition is intended to inspire the viewers to become aware of their own four walls. What kind of furnishings were chosen? Do I feel comfortable in my apartment? In which room do I spend more time than in others? Is its atmosphere cozy, quiet, or minimalist? Is it tidy or chaotic? Which colors and materials were preferred? Are there plants? Does my furnishing resemble an Ikea catalog suggestion?
