The Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna is currently accepting applications for the following position:

University Professor
of postcolonial studies at the Institute for Art Theory and Cultural Studies according to § 98 of the Universities Act 2002 (Universitätsgesetz 2002). This professorship is appointed for 20 hours per week for the duration of 4 years, starting in October 2008.

The field of duties covers passing on modern and contemporary art/theory in their transcultural relations, reflection of cultural methods of non-European art as well as appropriate constructions of identity and difference. The duties cover teaching at least 4 units a week as well as supervising theses and dissertations.

Application requirements:

  • A degree in the field from an Austrian university, equivalent foreign university or a qualification that may be considered equivalent;
  • excellent academic qualification in the field;
  • research and publication activities;
  • proof of pedagogic and didactic qualification;
  • proof of appropriate international experience and practice outside academia;
  • willingness to participate in university committees and to contribute to developing scholarly work in the arts and sciences by promoting the Academy’s research activities.

Preferred qualifications:

A connection of research and teachings to an artistic or curatorial experience in the field of postcolonial studies (lectures, symposia, research projects, exhibitions).
