The Academy of Fine Arts Vienna is currently accepting applications for the following position:

University Professor

of epistemology and methodology of artistic production at the Institute for Art Theory and Cultural Studies according to § 99 of the Universities Act 2002 (Universitätsgesetz 2002). This professorship is appointed for the duration of 5 years, starting in October 2011.

Duties:

  • holding the chair of the field of research "Kunst-Wissen";
  • design, development and coordination of research projects within the field of epistemology and methodology of art;
  • supervising dissertations;
  • the willingness to participate in university committees;
  • raising third-party funds for the field of research;
  • promotion of junior scholars;
  • teaching at least 6 units a week.

Application requirements:

  • Excellent academic qualification in the field of research and teaching of art as mode of knowledge-production and discursive practice;
  • a degree in the field from an Austrian university, equivalent foreign university or a qualification that may be considered equivalent;
  • appropriate publication and research activities;
  • proof of artistic-academic qualification and experience in the field outside academia;
  • coordination skills concerning the organisation of events and publications;
  • the willingness to participate in university committees and to cooperate with colleagues;
  • the ability to set up a long-term programme for innovative fundamental research within the field of epistemology and methodology of art (comprising the following fields of activity: artistic knowledge, artistic research, art/science-intersections amongst others).

Preferred qualifications:

  • combined interest and skills in art-(history), art and knowledge;
  • ability to set up and hold a chair at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna in the field of research mentioned above;
  • willingness to cooperate with an artistic professorship in the relevant field of research.
