Conservation-Restoration: Peeling the layers of the Hermesvilla

Students of the Academy conduct research on the interior of the Hermesvilla. The Kurier has published an article on this on May 18, 2025.

Students from the Institute for Conservation-Restoration are collaborating with the Wien Museum on the interior restoration of the Hermes Villa, one of the former residences of Emperor Franz Josef and Empress Elisabeth (Sisi).

The students are focusing on the following areas: wooden objects, mural paintings and paintings. With the help of the lecturers Gesa Schwantes and Monika Kammer, they are recording the imperial rooms from a restoration perspective. They are also working on color research. The first stage of the project should be completed by the end of September. The Wien Museum will then take over the so called "Raumbücher".
