Georgia Holz | Freelance curator, author and editor

Georgia Holz is mentor of Sara Lanner

Georgia Holz is an art historian working as a freelance curator, writer and editor in Vienna. Since 2018, she has been a university assistant and lecturer at the Department of Site-Specific Art at the University of Applied Arts Vienna. From 2006-15 she was assistant curator at the Generali Foundation Vienna and from 2003-05 curatorial assistant at Kunsthalle Wien.

She is interested in artistic practices and curatorial gestures that seek to interrogate and deconstruct hegemonic narratives through parafictional and speculative strategies. A central aspiration of her curatorial practice is to make visible the "unknown and unseen" such as feminist art history.

She has curated the following exhibitions, among others: Sammlungen und Archive – Vom Umgang mit den Dingen (BIG ART/Universität für angewandte Kunst Wien, 2021), Wie wir arbeiten wollen – Kollektives Handeln und künstlerische Komplizinnenschaft (das weisse haus Wien, 2019, mit Synne Genzmer), Verbinden / Vertreten / Verteilen / Vermitteln / Verhandeln. 70 Jahre Tiroler Künstler*schaft (Innsbruck 2016, mit Barbara Mahlknecht), Speech Acts. Vom Sprechen als politischem Handeln (Forum Stadtpark/steirischer herbst, Graz 2015). Ich bin eine andere Welt. Künstlerische AutorInnenschaft zwischen Desubjektivierung und Rekanonisierung (xhibit, Akademie der Bildenden Künste, Wien 2013/14, mit Claudia Slanar) und With a name like yours you might be any shape (UAG, University of California Irvine, 2012).
