NIRMAN | Residendies 2026/27
The NIRMAN Residencies in Varanasi, India offer time and space for sustained artistic and research practice within a living campus. Bringing together international cohorts of residents, the programme supports independent work while providing opportunities for dialogue across disciplines and practices.
NIRMAN is an independent educational and cultural organisation based in Varanasi, India. Founded in 1990, it brings together a progressive school, professional artistic practice, research, and ecological restoration across its city campus and the Gangavan Forest riverside campus. For more than three decades, NIRMAN has welcomed artists, researchers, educators, students, and collaborators from around the world through residencies, study programmes, and artistic and academic exchanges.
Residencies
October 2026 – April 2027
Some residents spend most of their time immersed in writing, making, or research. Others choose to engage more deeply with the life of the campus through dialogue, workshops, performances, or community activities. There is no single way to experience NIRMAN.
Rooted in Varanasi and extending from the city to our rural forest campus, the residency offers a place to think, create, and connect—at your own pace.
- Independent, Collaborative, Thematic, Family, and Extended Residencies
- Independent residencies typically last four weeks and bring together 8–10 residents per cohort.
- Need-based scholarships are available
Application
The deadline for priority consideration for the 2026/27 season is 31 August 2026.
Applications will continue to be reviewed on a rolling basis thereafter, subject to availability.
