The Institute for Conservation-Restoration at the Open Day of the BMBWF

Since 1934, the Institute for Conservation-Restoration (IKR) of the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna has stood for the highest excellence in the fields of research and teaching of knowledge and skills for the conservation of art and cultural assets. The range of types of objects treated extends from Roman wall paintings to contemporary media art. Thanks to project-based research, new, innovative concepts, methods and materials are constantly emerging. These guarantee contemporary handling and long-term preservation of the cultural heritage.

In addition to practical experiments with mineral compress materials to reduce salts harmful to the structure of historical buildings, interested visitors will also gain insights into the handling of colonial collection objects by means of an interview and film recordings on the conservational handling of traditional and contemporary art in the various departments of the institute.
