HUB | Open Call #8: Varia
HUB, the Journal of Research in Art, Design and Society, is a peer-reviewed open access journal with two issues per year. The Call for Papers for Issue #8 is now open, welcoming open-themed submissions that align with the journal's research areas. VARIA provides a space for diverse subjects, methodologies, and forms of artistic inquiry, reflecting the plurality of contemporary research practices.
Theme
The contributions gathered in this volume should push the boundaries of art and design research, whether through the questions they ask, the methods they employ, or the issues they bring into focus. This may include emerging practices and technologies, critical reflections on established disciplinary boundaries, interdisciplinary or transdisciplinary approaches, historical or archival research that reframes our understanding of the present, socially and politically engaged work, experimental or practice-based methodologies, and reflections on pedagogy, curation, or the institutional frameworks that shape artistic and design production. The authors are encouraged to propose subjects and perspectives beyond those outlined here.
VARIA is particularly interested in contributions that are willing to take risks: papers that open up new questions rather than reinforce established knowledge, that experiment with unconventional methodologies, or that bring underrepresented voices, geographies, and material practices into the conversation. We welcome submissions from researchers, practitioners, and educators at all career stages, and we are open to a wide range of formats and media, including practice-based research, visual essays, theoretical essays, case studies, and critical reviews.
Submission
Submissions received by October 30 will be reviewed for the Spring Issue to be published in May 2027. Proposals received after that date will be considered for the following Spring Issue.
