The Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna is currently accepting applications for the following position:

University Professor

according to § 98 UG 2002 of the Universities Act 2002 (Universitätsgesetz UG-2002) for Architectural Design at the Institute for Art and Architecture (IKA) from 01.09.2013 until 31.08.2018.

Architectural education at the IKA is based on five interrelated platforms, which structure teaching contents and constitute the institute's operative basis. These platforms are: Analogue Digital Production, Construction Material Technology, Ecology Sustainability Conservation, History Theory Criticism, Geography Landscapes Cities.

The open position is located within the platform ECOLOGY SUSTAINABILITY CONSERVATION. This professorship includes teaching obligations at design studio, lectures and research.

Qualifications:

The applicants should approach the topic sustainability in its large spectrum.

Aspects of technical innovations, architectural design and construction, as well as the field of cultural heritage have to be considered in relation to each other.

The applicant should position the platform as a design-driven, culture-oriented place, which brings forward a consciousness for the complexity of the field ecology and provides new professional perspectives for students of architecture.

The applicant is expected to set up networks with related research groups inside and outside the academic field in order to relate knowledge in this field from its technological aspects to the artistic.

Requirements for application:

  • The applicant must be a qualified architect with an Austrian or equivalent non-Austrian degree; •proof of
  • excellent artistic, technological and organisational achievements in architecture and the platform;
  • At least one research project for the platform is to be proposed as part of the application;
  • proof of teaching qualifications and experience;
  • proof of both theoretical and practical achievements in architecture;
  • proof of highly qualified, extramural practice in the relevant field;
  • leadership skills and willingness to participate in university committees are a must.
  • an excellent command of German and/or English;

The Academy of fine arts Vienna expects the successful candidate to acquire, within two years, proficiency in

German sufficient for teaching in all programs and participation in committees.

The position covers teaching obligations of at least 12 units a week.

The gross monthly salary according to the collective bargaining agreement for university employees in group A1 is currently EUR 4,571.20. Salary may be increased contingent upon candidates' qualifications.
