Feminist Internet Research Network: Keynote by Serene Lim
The lecture will take place within the framework of the Erasmus Blended Intensive Program “Network for Digital Art Education (N—DAE)”, a collaboration between TU Dresden and the University of Porto, from October 5–9, 2026. It is organized by Sophie Lingg and Helena Schmidt, Institute for Education in the Arts – Art and Education.
The Feminist Internet Research Network (FIRN) is a network of researchers, activists and practitioners from Global South countries in Africa, Asia, Eastern Europe and Latin America. FIRN focuses on the making of a feminist internet, seeing this as critical to bringing about transformation in gendered structures of power that exist online and offline and to capture fully the fluidity of these spaces and our experiences with them. Members of the network undertake data-driven research that provides substantial evidence to drive change in policy and law, and in the discourse around digital rights. FIRN is a collaborative and multidisciplinary research project led by the Association for Progressive Communications (APC).
Serene Lim is a feminist activist, researcher and writer based in Malaysia who focuses on the intersection of technology and feminism. She is currently a communication consultant for the Feminist Internet Research Network, Association for Progressive Communications, and is the co-founder and co-lead of MataSEA, a Southeast Asia feminist tech transnational Collective. Her research and writings explore feminist tech movement, feminist research methodology, tech-facilitated gender-based violence and the relationship of tech and climate justice.
