Bibliotheca Hertziana | Predoctoral and Postdoctoral Fellowships
The Department Weddigen at the Bibliotheca Hertziana (Max Planck Institute) in Rome offers Predoctoral and Postdoctoral Fellowships for the 2026/27 academic year.
Under the overarching theme of Art of the Modern Age in a Global Context, the department welcomes projects addressing – but not limited to – one of its five research priorities: Rome Contemporary, Materiality and Mediality, Italy in a Global Context, Transnational History of Art History, and Digital Visual Studies.
Conditions
- Applicants should be at an early stage in their career
- Funding period of three to twelve months.
- Scholarship recipients may request an extension through a new application, provided that the total duration of the scholarship does not exceed twelve months.
- Successful candidates will be part of a group of junior scholars related to one of the five topics and are expected to actively participate in the department’s activities.
Important dates
- Candidates can submit their application by 28 February 2026 on the institute’s recruitment platform.
- Online interviews will take place in mid-March.
- The earliest start date is 1 May
- Contracts must end before 15 September 2027
