Shifting Grounds
Works by the Design Studio Platform Geography Landscape Cities at the Institute for Art and Architecture, in Summersemester 2025. The exhibition is part of the interim use program mittendrin.wien.
During the summer semester of 2025, the Shifting Grounds design studio examined the Favoriten roundabout as a site of urban and city development with 26 students. The design work involved working with drawings and models, but above all documentation and observation on site, including joint site visits and a workshop with road marking materials.
The exhibition project is dedicated to communicating the work and content of the semester in a transformed form. The presentation on six large banners will become part of the urban transformation process on site. We understand the Favoriten roundabout not as a solitary location, but as a convergence of complexities. The studio's design projects were developed for specific aspects and scenarios of the Verteilerkreis and are conceived as experimental commentaries and approaches to the broader urban context. The exhibition primarily addresses the interplay between architecture, city, and landscape and, it is hoped, reflects the fascinating complexity of this accelerated urban catalyst.
